The right time to fertilise

Gardens comprise plants and lawn and both have different needs.
If you've decided you want a lush green lawn, without unsightly broad leaf or other weeds, you'll need to give it a little extra care. For example many of our customers either have a kikuyu or buffalo lawn and both need regular fertilising to keep their look and feel. I usually fertilise these types of lawn 4 times per year, in early spring, early summer, early and late autumn and I find that they respond well, by being able to outgrow weeds and provide the carpet you need to complement your garden..
You can either take a granularised or water based approach. Both will fertilise and remove unwanted weeds.
Generally speaking for ornamental plants I fertilise at the start of their growing season, eg spring time for most plants. You can keep things very basic by just adding some pelletised chook manure and well rotted compost if you have it. Just note that of you're fertilising your natives, use the organic pellets.
Fertilising your vege garden is a subject in itself so I'll write another article on that.
